Our History

The Bible Baptist Church of Beaver Dam began with a series of Bible studies held at the Kasten farm near Juneau.  Mrs. Kasten had become accustomed to listening to WMBI, the station operated by Moody Bible Institute.  Her daughter, Laura, attended Moody to get training to become a missionary.  Then she took nurses training in Milwaukee and attended Garfield Baptist Church.  Later, she and her brother, Gus, went to the Philippines as missionaries.  But, while she was on deputation in West Bend, she met Pastor Grant Rice, who was a church planter.  She challenged him to begin a work in Beaver Dam.
The Bible classes were held on Thursday nights for 16 months.  On April 20, 1958, the first services were held in the Labor Temple, which was downtown on Front Street above some stores.  Soon Pastor Rice moved to Beaver Dam and the services were held in his home at 706 South Spring St.  Sunday School classes were held throughout the house and even in the garage.  The Church was officially organized on Jan. 7, 1959, and received the charter and papers of incorporation on Jan. 15,1959.  A recognition service was held on April 23, 1959, and the Church was received into the fellowship of the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches.
Some of the early members and friends of the Church were the Kastens, Volkmanns, Draegers, Colemans, Kermicles, Schoups, Ada Martin, Browns, Kramers, Roemers, McFarlanes, Vinings, Nourses, and Jones.  In October of 1959 the Church bought property on the corner of Gould and McKinley and began to construct a building.  It was used the first time for the Christmas program that year.  The building was completed in 1960 and dedicated after Pastor Armin Erb became the first full-time pastor in July 1960.  The next Pastor was Rev. John Catlin, who constructed the Parsonage next door to the Church on Gould Street.  He served as Pastor of the Church from 1964-1967.  During Pastor Harry McKinney’s ministry from 1967-1974, the Church grew to over 100 and purchased land to build on in the Georgetown Heights Subdivision.  Pastor Lyle Ahrenholtz served from 1974-1977, and Pastor Tim Parcheta served from 1977-1980.  The Church was remodeled during this time.  Pastor Robert Johnson began to serve as the Pastor in 1981.  A new building was built at 900 Prospect Avenue in 1987-88.  It was first used on January 31, 1988.  The auditorium seats 200.  Dedication was October 16, 1988.  The $209,000.00 mortgage was paid off in January 2000. After a fruitful and blessed ministry, Pastor Johnson retired in 2003. Rev. Carlos Galvan was called as the pastor of Bible Baptist Church in October of 2003.
During the early 1970’s the church began its first Wednesday night youth program, the Eager Beavers.  In 1983, this program was replaced by Awana Clubs, and in 1992, King’s Kids was used.  In 1995, the program was split into Boy’s Brigade and Pioneer Clubs. Pioneer Clubs was replaced with Discovery Clubs in 2004.
Down through the years, the church has maintained a testimony for the Lord Jesus Christ in Beaver Dam. The Gospel and Bible truths have been faithfully preached and taught from the pulpit, in the Sunday School classes, and through a number of other ministries to children, teens, and adults. The church has supported many outstanding missionaries over the years, extending Bible Baptist’s influence throughout our state, country, and world.
